Arsenal lay down the law: Coventry crushed, title defence underway.
Arsenal aren't messing around. A 3-0 hammering of newly-promoted Coventry City at the Emirates made that perfectly clear. After taking the Community Shield, this Premier League opener was a brutal flex of their title muscle.

The Gunners simply rolled over Coventry. Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Odegaard: all on the scoresheet. This was a first-half clinic, leaving the visitors utterly bewildered. Coventry, in fact, didn't manage a single tackle or a touch in the opposition box during the entire first half. Since 2007, nobody's done that in the Premier League. It tells you everything. New left-winger Christos Tzolis, a debutant, was the catalyst. He set up the first two goals. First, he harried to win the ball, letting Riccardo Calafiori tee up Havertz. Then, his cross took a wicked deflection off Coventry keeper Carl Rushworth, landing perfectly for Saka.
Odegaard piled on the misery just four minutes into the second half. His shot, a bit of a mishit, still beat Rushworth. Arsenal never let up. Ben White, Saka, and Odegaard on the right flank were simply unplayable. Tzolis on the left, Declan Rice dictating everything in midfield. No way back for Coventry.
Arsenal shelled out £55m for Ezri Konsa, bringing him in from Aston Villa, and it looks like money well spent. He's made a strong defence even tougher. Sure, bigger tests are coming. But Mikel Arteta’s crew? They look absolutely ready for another tilt at the title. Oh, and Bruno Guimaraes wasn't even on the pitch. Still nursing that thigh injury from the Community Shield.
Betting angle
Attacking fireworks and a brick wall defence? Arsenal's showing suggests there's real value in the title markets. Still, don't go mad just yet. Wait for a few more games before you go all in.
