Chelsea draw Luton in Carabao Cup second round; Spurs host Charlton
The Carabao Cup second round draw has landed. Chelsea gets to host League One Luton Town at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham? They'll face their 'neighbours', Charlton Athletic, in what's being billed as an all-London clash. Predictable enough.

Preview & stats: Charlton v Derby →
Eleven Premier League sides, bless their hearts, sat this one out – the ones not busy gallivanting across Europe, that is. They were lumped in with the first-round winners, all neatly sectioned into 'Southern' and 'Northern' brackets. Chelsea's opponents? None other than Jack Wilshere's Luton. Yes, that Jack Wilshere – the former Arsenal lad – now steering his League One outfit straight into west London.
Tottenham's 'London derby' against Charlton will either be a dull affair or a classic cup upset. Who knows? Then there's Newcastle, drawing West Brom – a Championship side with promotion hopes, so maybe a decent game. Leeds get to play another Premier League team, Nottingham Forest. At least one top-flight casualty is guaranteed there.
David Moyes gets a sentimental reunion. His Everton side hosts Preston, where his managerial career kicked off. Sweet. Meanwhile, Keith Andrews' Brentford might actually have to work for it. They're heading to Birmingham, to St Andrew's, which could be a tricky away day, mark my words.
AFC Wimbledon, another League One outfit, gets their day out at Craven Cottage against Alvaro Arbeloa's Fulham. Good for them. Plymouth, fresh off beating Exeter in their local Devon derby, landed a home game against Coventry City. That's a nice little reward.
For those circling calendars, all these second-round clashes are slated for the week of August 24. As for the big boys, the real money-spinners, the rest of the Premier League crowd will waltz in for the third round. Those fixtures will be spread out across early and mid-September, presumably so the European elite don't break a sweat.
Betting angle
Naturally, Chelsea and Tottenham are the short-priced darlings here. But cup football, especially early rounds, is a wild beast. Form goes out the window. Betting on either of them? Value will be all over the place, entirely dependent on how seriously they take it, and who they actually bother to play.
