Earps settles into London City's glittering new era

The England goalkeeper departs PSG having spent time reflecting on her game and adapting to life abroad. "Living away from home, immersing yourself in a new language, in a new culture, a new city, a new country, it teaches you a lot of things about yourself," she told Sky Sports ahead of London City's opening fixture against Manchester United on 4 September.

Her experience abroad aids her understanding of fellow newcomers. Barcelona midfielder Putellas headlines the arrivals, alongside defenders Mapi Leon and midfielder Kadidiatou Diani. Existing squad members including Kosovare Asllani, Delphine Cascarino and Grace Geyoro complete a star-laden ensemble.

The influx of talent creates an unusual dynamic. Earps likened the scenario to a "first day at school" — everyone nervous, yet bonded by shared experience and heavyweight pedigree. "There's a lot of experience in the room as well. A lot of the players have won trophies, have incredible pedigree," she said.

Earps faces competition for the No1 shirt with Elene Lete, last season's starter, retained on a new contract. Sophia Poor and Sophie Hillyerd also form part of the goalkeeper contingent.

London City conceded 35 goals last season—notably more than champions Manchester City and Arsenal combined (33) and well above Chelsea's 20. Tightening their rearguard will prove critical should they harbour ambitions of challenging the Big Three, according to Sky Sports' reporting.
