Manzambi Off the Bench, Switzerland Hammers Bosnia 4-1

The scoreline: Switzerland 4, Bosnia-Herzegovina 1. Group B. SoFi Stadium. Attendance: 70,026.

For 73 dull minutes, this World Cup match was going nowhere. Seriously, nowhere. Then Murat Yakin actually did something: he looked to his bench.

That's when it all flipped.

Johan Manzambi, just 20, a Freiburg midfielder. He'd been on the field 166 seconds. That's all it took for him to crash a volley into the net, busting the deadlock wide open. Bosnia's day got worse, fast. Tarik Muharemovic saw red, clattering Breel Embolo on the heel. Last man. Done.

Embolo didn't just earn the card; he set up Ruben Vargas for the 2-0. Vargas, another sub, finished it first-time. Then Manzambi, clearly just showing off, coolly side-footed his second goal home on 90 minutes. What a shift.

Bosnia managed a consolation. Ermin Mahmic, only his third cap, put an excellent volley past Gregor Kobel. Nice for him. Swiss captain Granit Xhaka, though, had the last word, burying a penalty after Amar Memic fouled Djibril Sow. Three-goal margin restored. Game over. 4-1.

Manzambi ended up with the most shots on target for the Swiss. He led both teams in opposition box take-ons (5) and dribbles (4). Out-dueled almost everyone. The kid’s the Europa League Young Player of the Season, don't forget, helped Freiburg to the final. Now Yakin's stuck. What does he do for Wednesday's Canada game? Start him? The audacity.
