Redknapp hails Savio debut but De Zerbi demands more

The £85m signing from Manchester City delivered in stunning fashion just over 24 hours after arriving, coming off the bench in Spurs' 5-1 Carabao Cup victory. His performance immediately won over the Tottenham fanbase, with Redknapp claiming he "lit the place up" — precisely the type of spark the club craves.

Savio's intricate footwork and willingness to take on defenders kept fans on their feet throughout his brief outing. For a team that managed only 48 Premier League goals last season, his instant end product was particularly welcome.

Yet De Zerbi tempered the excitement, insisting the winger must take a significant leap forward. The Spurs boss acknowledged Savio possesses elite-level technical qualities but stressed that separating elite from world-class requires consistent goalscoring. He's set an explicit target of 10–12 goals this season, according to Sky Sports, framing it as non-negotiable for a club competing at the top.

Last season, Savio managed just three goal contributions in the Premier League — a record De Zerbi highlighted as insufficient. The manager's challenge reflects wider frustrations at Tottenham, where attacking limitations cost them dearly last term.

Savio's electrifying debut suggests he has the tools to succeed. Whether he can consistently deliver across a full season, rather than just in a cup rout, remains the real test.
