The Brazil winger was entering the final year of his original deal, leaving the door open for interested suitors, but Real Madrid moved quickly to secure his future. According to Sky Sports, the Spanish club improved their contract offer during recent meetings at the training ground, with the new deal announced on Wednesday.
Vinicius, who joined Real Madrid aged 18 from Flamengo, posted on Instagram: "Eight years at the Bernabéu is too short...six more years and forever." He will be 32 when the extension expires.
Sky Sports reports that the relationship between Vinicius and incoming manager Jose Mourinho played a significant role in the swift resolution, with Mourinho making clear his desire for the winger to be central to his Real Madrid plans. Real Madrid's statement hailed him as "one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history."
For Arsenal, the development closes off a potential left-wing target. Manager Mikel Arteta indicated the club remains active in the market, with a £75m Bruno Guimaraes deal from Newcastle set to progress. "We're optimistic about it," Arteta said, emphasising Arsenal's ambition to "attack every possible title" this season. The Gunners will now need to redirect their recruitment efforts elsewhere to strengthen the flanks.
Betting angle
Real Madrid's midfield depth with Guimaraes potentially moving to Arsenal may favour the Spanish club's attacking balance this season.
