Wissa double hands Jaissle perfect Newcastle bow despite Valencia chaos

Newcastle came from behind to beat Valencia in a friendly at the Mestalla, with Wissa's brace securing Jaissle a morale-boosting start after the week's upheaval surrounding Bruno Guimaraes' move to Arsenal.

The fixture turned ugly when Valencia left-back Gaya lunged at Newcastle winger Elanga early on, earning a straight red and forcing the Swede off on a stretcher. Both benches erupted during the chaos, yet Elanga avoided serious injury—only a shin contusion—and was walking afterwards.

Jaissle told his post-match press conference he felt "relaxed" over the situation. "The medical department is showing almost green lights," he said, adding he hoped Elanga would be ready to restart training next week.

Newcastle's first-half nightmare—trailing after Ugrinic's fifth-minute strike—shifted at the break. Jaissle's adjustments unleashed new signings Bazoumana Toure and Sean Steur, who impressed throughout. Wissa capitalised on a Valencia error to level in the 52nd minute, then pounced on Toure's assist for the 76th-minute winner.

Toure nearly set up a second assist late on, but Jacob Murphy's finish went over.

According to Sky Sports, the victory was the first silverware of Jaissle's tenure, with Newcastle lifting the Orange Cup. Jaissle stressed caution, saying the side would remain balanced rather than over-celebrating a pre-season result. Newcastle face Everton at Murrayfield next Wednesday.
