Over/Under 2.5 Goals Explained
Published 8 Jun 2026
Over/Under goals is the go-to market for backing high- or low-scoring games. Here is how the 2.5 line works.
Over/Under betting is about the total goals in a match, by both teams combined — you don't pick a winner.
Why the ".5"?
Lines use a half-goal so there's no draw on the bet. The standard line is 2.5:
- Over 2.5 wins if there are 3 or more goals (2-1, 3-0, 2-2…).
- Under 2.5 wins if there are 2 or fewer (1-0, 1-1, 0-0).
Other lines exist (1.5, 3.5) for lower- or higher-scoring expectations.
How to find value
Look at how many goals each team's matches actually produce, home and away. Two high-scoring sides meeting points to Over; two cagey, defensive teams point to Under. Our Over 2.5 table and Under 2.5 table rank every team, and xG helps confirm whether the goals are sustainable or just variance.
